Editorial standards

Last updated 2026-09-11

This site helps people make decisions about their time and money, so every figure on it follows the rules below. If you find a page that breaks them, the corrections process at the bottom applies.

Where numbers come from

Sources are used in this order, and a lower tier is only used when nothing higher exists:

  1. Rates, fees and requirements published by the platform or company itself (for example a marketplace's own fee page or a driving app's vehicle requirements).
  2. Government statistics and official guidance (for example the IRS on self-employment tax).
  3. Dated cost guides from large marketplaces and pricing sites that aggregate real quotes.
  4. Blog posts, only for a figure no better source covers, and always marked "(blog source)" next to the link.

Never used: forums, anonymous claims, screenshots of earnings, or numbers generated by an AI model.

What the labels mean

  • Typical reported: a range from a linked public source, with its date. It describes what people report charging or earning, not what you will earn.
  • Our estimate: a figure we worked out ourselves (start-up costs with no single source, and every "first dollar" timing). Estimates are labelled wherever they appear.
  • No reliable public data: we looked and did not find a source we would stand behind, so no number is shown.

Review cadence

Every playbook shows a "last reviewed" date. Each one is re-checked against its sources at least every 90 days, and sooner when a platform changes its fees or rules. The quiz's scoring rubric is published on the match page's data and is tested automatically before every release so that a result can never cite an answer you did not give.

Corrections

Send a correction, a better source or an out-of-date figure to admin@sidehustlebuilder.app. Material corrections are made within seven days and noted on the page.

Independence and affiliate links

No company pays to be included, ranked or recommended. The quiz scores every hustle by the same published rules. If a page ever carries an affiliate link, it will say so next to the link, the link will be marked as sponsored for search engines, and the choice of what to recommend will never depend on it.

Who is accountable

Side Hustle Builder is an independent, self-funded project run by a small team in the United States. We publish as a team rather than under individual names; accountability runs through this page, the corrections process and the email above. What we do with your data is on the privacy page: nothing personal is collected.
